If someone tells me that someone else is a fraud and hacker, how do I find out if this info is true?
Question by romantics v: If someone tells me that someone else is a fraud and hacker, how do I find out if this info is true?
I received an IM (from someone that I don’t know) telling me that one of my contacts is a fraud, and account hacker. How can I tell if this info is true. They told me he was reported to yahoo, and that yahoo is taking action, and that I should check this out with yahoo if I have questions. But I can’t seem to find anywhere to contact yahoo directly in order to verify this information. Can you please give me some advice as to how to contact yahoo and also how can I protect myself against this hacker if this information is true? Thank you!

Question by wtesdahl: What is up with this “Internet Antivirus Pro” that keeps popping up on my screen telling me I am infected?
What is up with this “Internet Antivirus Pro” that keeps popping up on my screen telling me I am infected and how do I get rid of it without having to spend more money. Just had the Geek Squad get the 360 Antivirus off my computer and then this happens. What is this and why? I was told by Comcast CSR that it is bogus and to ignore but eventually will need to correct. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks!!!

Is there really any money in this field of work?
Question by just a girl: Is there really any money in this field of work?
I have been contemplating going back to school for web site design and internet marketing. I just wonder if there is really money in the field? Is anyone out there making a real living off of it and is it better to go it alone (opening my own design solution business) or to take a job with an established company?

Answer by Andrew G
You listed two separate careers – web designing and web marketing.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in web marketing, I would strongly suggest getting a professional qualification at one of better web marketing programs in the country (somewhere like the University of Oregon – http://lcb.uoregon.edu/departments/mktg/index.html ) or possibly even an MBA in marketing. There is really not much money to be made in web marketing as a freelance or independent web marketer, unless you really establish yourself as an expert in the field by getting a top notch expert blog and building a high profile portfolio. However, if you get the right qualifications, you can posibly get a job at one of the big SEO or web marketing firms, which tend to be located either in the Boston/New York area, or in Silicon Valley. Salaries begin low ($ 30 to 40K), and the work is typically “grunt” work. However, you can build up to a six figure incombe, but that will take you time.
As regards being a web designer, the opportunities for freelance or independent work are much better, and you may not even need to go to school. The CIW qualifcation (http://www.ciwcertified.com/ ) is more than enough, and there are many online web design degrees or certificates which are available (check out http://www.worldwidelearn.com/ for some options). If you are going to set yourself up as an independent web designer, you are going to need to become well trained in several programming languages, get familiar with video and phot editing, and possibly even take a graphics art course or two from your local community college. As regards earning potential, that is going to be limited at the moment in the current economic climate, as businesses cut back on their marketing budgets (under which websites usually fall). However, you can make a reasonable income from web design on your own ($ 30 – 35K within the first year, if you are good), although you really have to concentrate on promoting yourself and establishing your credibility. Jobs with a web design firm are highly competitive, and are also under pressure from the economy. Firms normally hire on the basis of past experience with web design (so you might want to look at hunting for a job after you have had some experience out on your own and built up a portfolio), and usually want some sort of degree or qualification (although this differs from firm to firm). Salaries differ, but usually fall into the $ 45 to 55K range, with the top designers getting double or more than that.

I want a system that charges a clients card every time they schedule an appointment online depending on how many hours they want for a meeting. Would it be best to charge them once a month and just total up their total used time or charge them every time they schedule? How would this be set-up? Who would I use to process transactions and how?
Best answer:
Answer by rokaround
You will need a webpage to start. Then you are going to need a script in it with appointment scheduler custom built. you can have them pay thru paypal so it is secure but you will have to pay paypal a service fee for each transaction. any service you use will charge a fee. If you do the credit card thing your self . You Will Be Responsible for the safety of your Clients Information. If you are Breached you can Be sued.I don’t keep any clients Info. I use paypal . They can pay with cards or bank acct makes No difference. As Far as How to charge , Up to you.But if you wait till end of month . Options for skip abound.Best to collect immediately. I have found that not collecting immediately has lost Me customers. because I had to chase after Money then offer free service to get My Money then they expect that always when I said No, Problems. Customer No Longer Buys .If I had collected first. Never would that issue have arisen.

Is is ok to report this youtube channel?
Question by Ju Di: Is is ok to report this youtube channel?
So I was surfing on youtube, and I found a channel advertising for a great product. I go to their website to see about possibly ordering said product, when WOT stops me. Apparently, the site uses a cheap product to get a hold of your credit number and charge you obnoxiously. Can I report this channel for sending me to such a site? If so, how would I report it?
Best answer:
Answer by Monarchco
Cant report it, well, you can, but it wont get anywhere.
Just because WOT has reviews claiming this, doesnt mean its true(im not siding with anyone), and therefore, from a legal perspective, they are selling a legitimate product, and therefore arent doing anything legally wrong.
If this company is US based, than you can report them to the authorities if *YOU* have evidence that they are performing these illegal acts. and no, WOT reviews dont count as evidence, as someone can have multiple accounts, and spam illegitimate things.

Can someone tell me if they have had a similar experience? And if this is a scam?
Question by Upstate Gal: Can someone tell me if they have had a similar experience? And if this is a scam?
My mom always taught me if it sounds to good to be true it probably is… So I think it is a scam. But is it? Here is the story…
So I received a phone call from an unknown number yesterday around 4:30 in
the afternoon. On the other end of the phone was, what sounded to me like,
a foreign man/woman’s voice. He/She said that I qualified to receive a
$ 7,000 grant from the US Treasury Department. He explained that a grant
was being GIVEN to me and that a grant, unlike a loan, did not need to be
paid back. He continued to explain that a survey/study of roughly 1,700
people was conducted in my (hometown) area, and from these, I qualified to
receive this $ 7,000 grant because I had no criminal record, not declared
bankruptcy, and was in good standing on my credit report. He also
explained that in order to receive my $ 7,000 grant I would need to verify
a few pieces of information… (This is where the dialogue begins.)
Other end of the Phone: “You are (he said my name), correct?”
Me: “Yes, I am.”
“Good, Good. Please confirm that your mailing address is 1581…(he gave my home address)”
“Yes, it is.”
“Are you working full or part time?”
“…Part-time”
“Ok. Now this…. transaction (maybe that’s what he called it? )… Can
take place via MasterCard, Visa, Discover, etc. Will you please confirm
your card number?”
“Actually, I would like the check mailed to me… If this is okay?”
OEP: “Now, ma’am, this will be a slight inconvenience to you. If the check
is mailed, it will take the check 4 to 5 days to reach you once it has
been mailed. Is this okay?”
Me: “Yes, of course.”
“Ok ma’am. Now may I once again confirm that you will once again have the
check mailed to 1581…(he repeated my address)”
“…Yes sir, that is correct”
He/She proceeded to tell me that I would need to call (202) 559-****, ask
to speak to Tracy Cooper, and give him/her my confirmation number: he
said that my confirmation number (which consisted of 2 letters and 3 numbers). He stressed that in order to receive my $ 7,000 grant, I must call his “officer” and give them my confirmation number.
I asked if it was too late to change the mailing address and have the
check sent to me at school. This seemed to confuse the person on the other
end of the phone, but I explained I was a student and wouldn’t be home for
several weeks which seemed to clear up the confusion. I gave the person my
student address. After he read it back to me, he confirmed it had been changed in the
system and that the check would be sent to my school address instead of my
“other mailing address”. Before bidding me a good afternoon and hanging
up, he/she once again stressed the importance of calling the number and
giving them my confirmation code
I proceeded to call the (202) number at 4:48pm, but no one answered.

Q&A: Seeing many posts in this section for Free AntiSpyware and AntiVirus programs?
Question by Aunnika**says**THANK YOU**: Seeing many posts in this section for Free AntiSpyware and AntiVirus programs?
First of all – in the past few months or so there has been a surge in fake pop ups stating that the person’s Antivirus program is out of date and people are clicking on this and adding MORE viruses etc,….
Second – here is the latest Security Internet Alert from Homeland Security-
Fake Antivirus Software Circulating
added September 16, 2008 at 12:30 pm
US-CERT is aware of public reports indicating an increase in the instances of fake antivirus software circulating. These software applications are malicious code, not legitimate antivirus applications. These instances of malicious code are noted as being distributed through spam email messages containing malicious links, instant messages containing malicious links, private messages on social networking sites, infection from other malware, and from visiting compromised websites.
Quite often, this malware attempts to convince users that there is something wrong with their systems. This leads to an attempt persuade the users into purchasing an illegitimate antivirus application. If the user purchases the bogus software, the attacker may be able to obtain personal and credit card information for use in additional scams and fraudulent activity.
US-CERT encourages users to perform the following preventative measures to help mitigate the risks:
* Install legitimate antivirus software from a trusted vendor, and keep its virus signature files up-to-date.
* Do not follow unsolicited web links found in email messages or instant messages.
* Use caution when visiting untrusted websites.
* Do not install untrusted software.
I would like to know why there is so much advice to download free software in this section when there is clearly an issue in this area….a big issue.
It is recommended to ensure legitimacy. So what’s up?
Best answer:
Answer by mdigitale
It all boils down to common sense.
I would also like to point out that users should not trust “trusted” software automatically either– its easy for malicious programs to embed themselves in such (especially pirated software).
Digital Signatures can help ensure the authenticity of a file from a trusted certificate authority, but even these can be forged.
Just use common sense.

Hello Davis,
My name is Mr. Kobby Nkrumah, a banker here in Ghana. I write you this proposal in good faith hoping that I will rely on you. In 2006, one Mr. Daniel Davis, who has same surname as yours and who has your country in his file as his place of origin, made a fixed deposit for 36 calendar months, valued at $ 12,750,000.00. with my bank. I was his account officer before I rose to the position of Manager now. The maturity date for this deposit contract was 16th of January 2009.
