It’s a scam run out of Eastern Europe. They pretend to be in Ireland or the UK They are not.
Ireland has very high unemployment and Irish citizens who can are leaving to find work in other countries. It would be almost I’m possible to get a job as a non EEA citizen.

both of those along with maybe a Net+ cert. What they would really like to see is a bachelor in some IT field, but understandably, that is not always feasible.

Can someone tell me if they have had a similar experience? And if this is a scam?
Question by Upstate Gal: Can someone tell me if they have had a similar experience? And if this is a scam?
My mom always taught me if it sounds to good to be true it probably is… So I think it is a scam. But is it? Here is the story…
So I received a phone call from an unknown number yesterday around 4:30 in
the afternoon. On the other end of the phone was, what sounded to me like,
a foreign man/woman’s voice. He/She said that I qualified to receive a
$ 7,000 grant from the US Treasury Department. He explained that a grant
was being GIVEN to me and that a grant, unlike a loan, did not need to be
paid back. He continued to explain that a survey/study of roughly 1,700
people was conducted in my (hometown) area, and from these, I qualified to
receive this $ 7,000 grant because I had no criminal record, not declared
bankruptcy, and was in good standing on my credit report. He also
explained that in order to receive my $ 7,000 grant I would need to verify
a few pieces of information… (This is where the dialogue begins.)
Other end of the Phone: “You are (he said my name), correct?”
Me: “Yes, I am.”
“Good, Good. Please confirm that your mailing address is 1581…(he gave my home address)”
“Yes, it is.”
“Are you working full or part time?”
“…Part-time”
“Ok. Now this…. transaction (maybe that’s what he called it? )… Can
take place via MasterCard, Visa, Discover, etc. Will you please confirm
your card number?”
“Actually, I would like the check mailed to me… If this is okay?”
OEP: “Now, ma’am, this will be a slight inconvenience to you. If the check
is mailed, it will take the check 4 to 5 days to reach you once it has
been mailed. Is this okay?”
Me: “Yes, of course.”
“Ok ma’am. Now may I once again confirm that you will once again have the
check mailed to 1581…(he repeated my address)”
“…Yes sir, that is correct”
He/She proceeded to tell me that I would need to call (202) 559-****, ask
to speak to Tracy Cooper, and give him/her my confirmation number: he
said that my confirmation number (which consisted of 2 letters and 3 numbers). He stressed that in order to receive my $ 7,000 grant, I must call his “officer” and give them my confirmation number.
I asked if it was too late to change the mailing address and have the
check sent to me at school. This seemed to confuse the person on the other
end of the phone, but I explained I was a student and wouldn’t be home for
several weeks which seemed to clear up the confusion. I gave the person my
student address. After he read it back to me, he confirmed it had been changed in the
system and that the check would be sent to my school address instead of my
“other mailing address”. Before bidding me a good afternoon and hanging
up, he/she once again stressed the importance of calling the number and
giving them my confirmation code
I proceeded to call the (202) number at 4:48pm, but no one answered.

Blatant, ridiculously obvious scam right from the start. You should’ve just hung up.

Are web merchants liable if credit card information from their customers is stolen? Are they responsible?
Question by Suntoosoon: Are web merchants liable if credit card information from their customers is stolen? Are they responsible?
Hi, I purchased a few items on-line a few monthts ago and my credit card information was stolen from this online vendor. I just found out some bogus charges on my account that were charged on that card used w/ this vendor. What is their responsability on this? I did not receive any e-mail form them saying my credit card data was stolen, I am sure that other customers of them might have been affected. How do I proceed? Should I call them to let them know they have an unsecure server and ask them to notify their customers? Do I report this to an authority to make sure they make them take any action?
Best answer:
Answer by Big H
I’m sure its somewhere deep in their EULA that they aren’t liable for stolen information. And it would probably stand up in court unless you can prove they didn’t take any precautions to secure it….

My Laptop was stolen, what information can they see?
Question by maria: My Laptop was stolen, what information can they see?
I already filed a police report but I just want to know exactly how much information a person can find out from your computer. I have bought items with a credit card on my computer but im positive that I have nothing written down about numbers or any personal information.
Bastards are probably reading this question as i type it. …..damn

If you call a landline using Skype, do they see your phone number on call display?
Question by jny: If you call a landline using Skype, do they see your phone number on call display?
I was just wondering if you call a landline phone number using your skype credits, do they somehow see your phone number if they have call display? I’m not sure what number they might see (maybe if you inputted one into your skype profile?) or if it just says PRIVATE.
Best answer:
Answer by Meh, Internets
IIRC it displays either the number you put on your profile, or your Skype number, provided you’ve paid for one.
