my laptop suddenly went black and when i ran diagnostics it said code 0142 so i checked dell on another computer and it said my hard drive crashed! please help me because my parents wont give me a DD to send them. how can i pay them?

go to a pharmacy or supermarket and pick up a visa gift card. Make sure the card says that it can be used for online purchases. Once you buy the right card, you register it online, and then you can use it to buy stuff online.

In high school I used Google docs which accomplished most of the tasks I needed to do. Now I’m about to move into college and I’m unsure whether such investment is appropriate? Advice please? PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME TO DOWNLOAD FREE COPIES. ALSO, WINDOWS/MICROSOFT HATERS ARE NOT WELCOME. I need useful/experienced advice/suggestions please.

I would recommend when you go to college you check with the book store. I am a college student and I can get it for 100 bucks. Its the Professional version with access and front page. YOU can get buy with open office (I am using it now with Ubuntu 10.04) But I still recommend Office 10 (now Office 11)
So first check with the college book store and buy it. Don’t get it on line from unknown places because I did that and they sent me a KEY that didn’t work.

If I wanted to purchase a laptop/notebook computer, with simple word processing, and including a “floppy” drive, and a C.D. drive, for saving files, but with NO extra features, how much money should I expect to spend on a new unit versus how much I should expect to spend for a used unit? What is the lower end price, for a laptop/notebook computer? Where is the best place to find a new (or Used) unit?

Most laptops come with some extra features like webcams but the cheapest I’ve seen is maybe $ 500-ish

Look at the price difference. If the iPad 3 you plan on buying costs +$ 300 more than the iPad 2, then it’s not worth it. However, if prices are similar, iPad 3 is the one to take.

I got a phone call a few mins ago from an Arizona number. It was a recording saying that I can lower my interest rates on my credit card. Well right off the bat I thought telemarketer so I pressed 1 to speak with the operator. I simply said,” I do not currently have a credit card and I don’t know how you got this number, I would like to be removed from your calling list.” The person immediately hung up. Tried to call it back several times and sounds like a busy or disconnected signal. I did a reverse look up on the number and it is a cell phone. Could this person have obtained any information just by me answering the call? Should I be worried about that? Who do I contact to report this phone call and phone number?

It’;s just a telemarketer. Register your number on the Do Not Call list and they will leave you alone. If they still bother you after 30 days, you can report them to Do Not Call.
They wouldn’t have gained any info from you just answering the phone.. other than it’s a real phone number, not out of service or a fax line or something.

I’ve already decided I’m getting a Dell, so as much as you may think it’s a bad idea, work with me on this one! I’m willing to spend $ 1000 to finance the thing through my mother (I’m repairing my credit now that I’m in a better income level but I still have to pay off outstanding interest on college loans). Anyway, what should I look for in the prospective models I’ll be exploring this weekend? I am interested in a model to store photographs and ripped music on. What storage should I seek out? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Size is a huge factor in the purchase of a laptop. If you are a out and about a lot, you may want a light-weight machine with plenty of battery life. If you want a desktop-replacement system that lives at home or in the office get a laptop that has a fast processor, many components, and a large screen size; all factors which increase the laptop’s weight.The more you want from your laptop, the bigger and heavier it will be.
1. screen size
Are you going to be spending alot of time on the machine? If so, you might want to consider one with a large screen. (Spend a couple of hours squinting at a 13″ screen and you’ll see what I mean)
2. cpu and ram
Aim at a multicore cpu (amd x2 or Pentium dual core). If you avoid the very top end cpus and youll save a lot of money. Install as much ram as you can afford (2gig a sweet-spot for ram)
3. extras
Do you want to be able to burn dvd’s? if so make sure it comes with a dvd burner (cd burning is inclusive if it can burn dvd’s). Do you want it to be able to read media cards? if so consider
getting something that has a card reader compatible with your preferred camera/media device (bear in mind that most devices can also be connected with a usb cable)
4. battery life
Will you be running it regularly in places where there is no access to power points? If so, you might want to consider long-life battery options.
5. hard drive
Will you be wanting to store video files (full movies) on the hard disk? If you want to store a lot of ripped mp3′s, you might want to look at making sure the machine has a large hard disk.
Another option is to get a more modest built-in drive (cheaper) and purchase a larger external hard disk later on down the track.

5 years ago my mother and I purchased a used computer from one of those used/new/we-sell-electronic-items stores and approximately 4 years later I discovered that they had actually cheated us out of our money. The computer has about 1GB of hard drive space and 256 RAM and totaled up to about $ 500.00 (and then some if you include the monitors, keyboards and mouse we’ve had to replace). It’s a desktop Compaq computer that since its purchase has gone back for repair just a few times and continues to fail at doing simple computer tasks (takes forever to startup, takes 5 minutes, literally, to start Mozilla Firefox, won’t play YouTube videos or any other videos for that matter and drags on when you try to play games or engage in any other forms of computer entertainment). Of course every computer, when new (well in our case used and new), operates satisfactory enough in the beginning and then goes bad later on. So here are my questions:
Did we in fact get cheated out of our money or were the computer’s specs reasonable for the amount of money we spent?
If this computer is sold, how much would another “used/new/we-sell-electronic-items store” buy it for?
If we were indeed cheated out of our money, was it illegal for the guys at that “used/new/we-sell-electronic-items store” to do so?
I would know the specs since I’ve been using it for years; downloading anime, songs, videos and such to watch. Going through all the ups and downs of computer failure I learned eventually some of the basics. “Low vertual memory” was the constant pop-up in those days. I have a laptop now and my younger sister has the computer, she complains about how slow it is too.
Ok so, I just checked and it turns out I gave some misinfo. The specs for the hard drive is 9 GB but the RAM is still the same and it’s still just as bad

YOU DID GET CHEATED OMG! i feel bad im so sorry 1gb and 256 mb of ram that is not even worth 50$ i could buy that with my pocket change oh my god! go to ibuypower.com and buy the gaming budget king which is 400$ has 500 gb hard drive 2-4 gb of ram and you can customize it
If your going to buy a computer again please message me im a computer geek i know every website and cheapest parts
