Q&A: How can I save a word document using Disk Utility on a Macbook?

7942023518 9b66be64df m Q&A: How can I save a word document using Disk Utility on a Macbook?
by U.S. Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia

Question by Kathryn: How can I save a word document using Disk Utility on a Macbook?
I need a mac expert! I have a 2009 macbook with mountain lion. Today I tried to restart my computer but it kept freezing on the apple logo with the spinning wheel. I have literally tried everything to get it to reboot and repair itself and the only thing that has worked is ctrl+r. I have to save word documents using disk utilities but I can not find documents anywhere? How can I save word documents using disk utility? I can’t reinstall mountain lion without getting these documents because it will erase everything on my computer. Please help me!

“How can I save a word document using Disk Utility on a Macbook?”
No, you won’t be doing that. You will save a Word document using Word.

“I have literally tried everything”
Woah there. I’ve told you a million times not to exaggerate.
Try repairing the HDD. Try reinstalling.

Q&A: How can I save a word document using Disk Utility on a Macbook?

“…the only thing that has worked is ctrl+r”
Not following you. What does ctrl+r do? If you mean command R, that starts to a different drive volume (the hidden restore partition). Sure, that works to get a stable screen, but it doesn’t work for anything useful in and of itself. You have to repair the HDD using Disk Utility. Until you repair using Disk Utility, nothing has been done.

Look at the Dock for the icon at the link below. That’s how you avoid this sort of terror.

If you would rather spend a few hours learning how to copy documents from the internal drive to an external drive via single-user mode in lieu of using Time Machine, post another question about that specifically, and I will tell you how. It’s too long to fit in this answer along with this other answer.

Question by ツ: Firefox – How do I make it save my logins?
It used to all the time, but the past few days when I’d exit the web, then come back to it later, I was logged out of everything. How do I get it to go back?

Answer by Trevor
In Firefox, click Tools > Options > Privacy and make sure Firefox is set to remember your history.
Then go to the Security tab and make sure “Remember Passwords for sites” is checked.
