Scotland Yard wouldn’t get involved as there is no crime unless you actually sent money. it’s not a crime for one person to ask another for money. And it’s not even technically a crime if you voluntarily choose to send your money to a person you’ve never met in person. A crime is when another person hacks into your bank account or steals your credit card. It’s naivete if you choose to believe anything anyone online tells you and you send money to a person you’ve never met in person.

First of all, have you done an IP lookup to make sure this person is even physically in the UK? Plenty of scammers pretend to be in the UK but an IP lookup shows they are in Russia or Ghana or Malaysia or elsewhere so that’s the first thing you have to do http://aruljohn.com/info/howtofindipaddress/
If they are in the UK then you can report to Action Fraud who work with UK police on cyber crime
