First of all, if you can't get your case open to see what kind of slot you have then how are you going to put the new card in? Now that said..go to the hp web site and look up the specs for your make and model of computer. That should tell you what kind of open expansion slots you have. Make sure you look at what the wattage of the power supply is also. Then when you are card shopping make sure you check the power requirements of the new card as well as slot configuration. It will also help to know how much ram and what kind of processor you have as these will make a difference in what kind of card you can use. There is a whole lot more to it than just going out and buying a card and sticking it in the hole...Actually, print out the specs and take them to the store with you maybe the computer dept guy can point you in the right direction and keep you from wasting money on a card that you computer can't run.

Actually, there are. However, it depends on the software and operating system. For example, Windows has a long record of vulnerabilities whereas Mac does not. Computer security is really popular right now.

When you type in your credit card number on a web page, your computer encrypts the numbers before sending it over then internet for processing (assuming the web site is secure, I wouldn't enter my numbers on a unsecured site). The numbers are processed by machines only, no human eye should see your credit card number, besides those looking at the monitor when you typed it in.

It's a lot safer then when you go to a restaurant, and the waiter walks away with your credit card for a few minutes.

It depends on the website that you give your number too. If it is a secure site then you are 99.9% not going to have any trouble. If it's not a secure site then you shouldn't give them anything. To know if it is secure or not, the web address should begin with "https://", the s means secure, or there should be a little picture of a lock in the bottom right corner of IE. Most secure sites also tell you they are certified by VeriSign or some other company. When you give them your number it is encoded and transmitted to their server, and then is transmitted to the credit card company for verification.

Usually (hopefully always) your credit card number is encrypted so that it can't be read while it is being transmitted to the store's website. Once it gets to the website, who knows? The store may just use the credit card number once for the purchase, then "throw it away,", or it may put your credit card number in encrypted form into a database, or it may put it into a database without encrypting it.

Usually a store will put their privacy policy on their website for you to read, and you have to take it on faith that the policy is actually implemented, and that no other mistakes are made with the data.
